Rev. William R Kaster

The Rev. William R. Kaster died at his residence in North Webster, Indiana, on May 30, 2026. He was born to John W. and Ella Mae (Thompson) Kaster on May 4, 1942 in Shelbyville, Indiana. He married Susan G. Grier on September 6, 1964. She died in 2007; they were married 43 years. 

Their children are Mary Kaster, Sebastopol, California; Michael Kaster, Indianapolis; and Rebecca Kaster, North Webster. Their son, Peter Kaster, died in 2021.There are three grandchildren. Elise Kaster, daughter of Michael. Gavin and Eric Harlow, sons of Rebecca. Edith Seewald was William’s long time companion. 

William grew up on a farm in Noble Twp. Shelby County. He graduated from the Waldron, Indiana, High School in 1960. He then graduated from Indiana University, Bloomington, in 1965 with the BASW in Social Work. He also graduated from the Methodist School in Ohio in 1968 with the MDiv. He was ordained in the ministry of the United Methodist Church 1968. As a pastor he served 44 years at several congregations in Indiana, including Valparaiso, Hobart, Auburn, and Plymouth. He retired from active ministry in 2008.

We also remember Edie Seewald who was our father’s companion for many years. They enjoyed both our family and her family. They spent several winters in Florida. They enjoyed cruises. They traveled on several trips around the country. Edie passed away in 2025.

Services will be held at First United Methodist Church, Warsaw, Indiana, at three o’clock eastern standard time, on Sunday, June 14th, 2026.
