Thomas R Gard, age 90, of Leesburg, passed away on June 28, 2026, in Leesburg, Indiana, just shy of his 91st birthday. He was born on July 6, 1935, in Richmond, Indiana to Edward and Althea Gard. His life was marked by a steadfast dedication to those around him, an enduring love for music, and a commitment to service and community.
Thomas is survived by his loving wife, Wyinette Gard of Leesburg; children, Christina (Gerald) Watkins of Columbia City; Mark (Pamela) Gard of Marion, Susan (Gary) Wyatt of Bear Lake, Carolyn (Jim Brannon) Thurman of Marion, Dawn (Jonas) Hamilton of Ocala, FL; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren; step-children, Dave (Kathy) Rittenhouse of Fort Wayne, Bruce (JoAnn) Rittenhouse of FL, Bryan (Sally) Rittenhouse of FL and Terry Rittenhouse. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Melody Gard; step-son, Clarence Rittenhouse; brother, Robert Gard; sister-in-law, Barbara Gard
Thomas’s early years began in the heart of Indiana, where he cultivated a foundation of lifelong values. He graduated from Columbia City in 1953, embracing the promise of new opportunities and friendships. His sense of duty to his country led him to serve honorably in the United States Army, a period of his life that instilled deep respect for service and camaraderie.
Music was a constant and vibrant presence in Thomas’s life. His talents on the keyboard and piano were well known among friends and acquaintances, marking gatherings and special moments with joy and artistry. For many years, he played at Barbee Hotel, where his music became woven into the memories of countless patrons and contributed to the rich tapestry of local life. Thomas’s love of music extended beyond performance; it reflected a passion for bringing people together and expressing the deepest emotions of the heart.
A Life Celebration Service will be held at 10 am on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at Titus Funeral Home-North Webster, located at 8056 E 500 N, North Webster, IN 46555. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the service. Father Andrew Nazareth will officiate. Titus Funeral Home and Cremation Services has been entrusted with the care of Thomas.
