Susan Hiatt, age 76, of Winona Lake and Sarasota, Florida, passed away on May 22, 2025, at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. She was born on November 21, 1948, to William "Bill" and Theda Cutter. She grew up in Syracuse, Indiana, where she created treasured memories of summers spent at Wawasee Lake.
She was a graduate of Syracuse High School, class of 1966, and earned her bachelor’s degree in education from Ball State University. It was at Ball State that she met her husband, James Hiatt. Throughout their 56 years of marriage, they built a life together filled with love and devotion. Susan taught 1st grade for four years at Concord Eastside before becoming a homemaker where she raised her children.
Susan’s personality was characterized by her fierce love for family and friends. She never knew a stranger and was always ready to lend a caring hand to anyone in need. Known for her creativity, she delighted in making custom cards to mark various occasions for friends and family, spreading joy through her thoughtful gestures.
Throughout her life, Susan found joy in many pursuits. She loved golfing and traveling, exploring new places, and creating precious memories with her family. The Christmas season held a special place in her heart, as she made it a truly magical time for those she loved. She enjoyed playing the piano for her six precious grandchildren. She felt blessed to be their Nana and part of their lives.
Susan is survived by her husband, James Hiatt of Winona Lake; children, Brian (Jill) Hiatt of Lakewood Ranch, FL, and Jennifer (D.J.) Schuman of Warsaw; and her treasured grandchildren, Hannah, Madison, Gabby, Savannah, Kendall, and Natalie. She is also mourned by her mother, Theda Cutter, and her brother, Bill (Celeste) Cutter of Batesville, IN.
She was preceded in death by her father, Bill Cutter.
Arrangements are entrusted to Titus Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 2000 Sheridan Street, Warsaw, IN. A Life Celebration Visitation for Susan will be held on May 31, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, followed by a Funeral Service starting at 1:00 PM at the funeral home. A private family burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
