Scott Robert DeVoe, 71, of Muncie, Indiana, passed away peacefully on July 10, 2025—one day before his 72nd birthday—with his loving wife, Kathy, by his side. Born on July 11, 1953, in Muncie, Scott was the son of Frederick A. DeVoe and Dorothy Belle (Breeden) DeVoe.
The DeVoe family’s automotive legacy began with Harry S. DeVoe at his Chrysler and DeSoto dealership in Muncie in the 1920s. His sons—Paul, Fred, and Dick—carried on the tradition, each becoming a Chevrolet dealer and establishing reputations for hard work, integrity, and community dedication that endured for generations.
After graduating from Butler University, Scott joined the family enterprise, DeVoe Chevrolet in Alexandria, in 1977. Alongside his brother Tom, he assumed leadership from their father, Fred, upholding the tradition of excellence and service. In 2007, Scott took full ownership, steering the dealership through periods of growth with a customer-first philosophy that seamlessly blended heritage, innovation, and charitable support of the Alexandria community. He took great pride in passing the business to his son Spencer in recent years, ensuring the family legacy continued.
In 2022, Scott was diagnosed with ALS. He confronted the disease with remarkable strength, courage, and grace, buoyed by the unwavering support of his family and friends. Throughout his journey, his indomitable spirit, optimism, and zest for life remained unshaken.
Beyond his professional life, Scott’s passions enriched his days. He relished golf outings, scenic rides on his Harley-Davidson motorcycles, and cruises on his Chris-Craft boat during family gatherings at Lake Tippecanoe. A lifelong lover of motor vehicles, he favored Chevrolet models and eagerly hosted the dealership’s annual car shows while attending the Detroit Auto Show each year. He also cherished travels for Chevrolet dealer trips and Dealer 20 Group meetings, which merged his love of business, adventure, and camaraderie. At home, he delighted in cheering for the Colts and Pacers alongside his family.
Above all, Scott treasured his family. Whether at the lake, during holidays, or over meals, these moments were his greatest joy. His warm demeanor, infectious laugh, and knack for forging friendships left an indelible mark on everyone he met.
Scott is survived by his devoted wife, Kathy DeVoe; his children Adrienne (Steve Ockrim) and their sons Tyler and Ethan; Cameron (Jennifer) and their daughters Emma and Josephine; Spencer (Dayci) and their children Vincent and Berkley; Marcus and his children Adelynn and Alden; and Matthew (Morgan) and their daughter Caroline. He is also survived by his brother, Tom DeVoe; nieces Ashleigh Serdan and Elyse Homberger; and nephews Matt DeVoe and Adam DeVoe. Scott was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Susan DeVoe.
The family will be hosting a celebration of life on Saturday, August 23rd from 4:00p - 8:00p EST at The Clubhouse (115 South Walnut Street) in Muncie, Indiana. The celebration is open to the public. We look forward to celebrating a life well lived!
