Scott Edward Abbs, 71, of Syracuse, Indiana passed away on July 19, 2025, at Goshen Hospital after a courageous 2-year battle with Glioblastoma.
Born on December 18, 1953, in Sturgis, Michigan, Scott was the eldest son of Harold “Tuffy” and Isabelle “Izzy” Abbs. He graduated from Sturgis High School in 1972 and went on to earn his Associate Degree in Applied Science in Machine Tool from Ferris State College in 1974. He married his sweetheart, Kathy Lee Luttrull, on April 26, 2003.
Scott will be remembered for the genuine connections he made with people throughout his life. He was a devoted father and grandfather, leading the Abbs family on the annual Father-Son Canoe trip and traveling to see his grandsons participate in activities every chance he could. He loved supporting his community through participation in Wawasee Kiwanis and Meridian Sun Masonic Lodge No. 49, assisting in the creation of the Syracuse Community Center, and in his role as a Shriner, utilizing his talent playing the bagpipes for multiple community and private events. Scott enjoyed a fulfilling 40-year career with Shelton Machinery as a Sales Engineer, where he formed lasting friendships and found great joy in his travels. In his weekend time off work, he liked hanging with the boys at the Man Cave Brewery. Scott knew no stranger and was always available for good conversation and to lend a hand. In addition to family and friends, Scott delighted in spending time with his cherished poodles, especially Cosmo, and recreational activities on Syracuse Lake and Lake Wawasee.
Scott is survived by his loving wife, Kathy, and his three children: Gregory (Kristin), Sheena, and Nicholas (Natasha) Abbs. He was a proud grandfather to five grandsons: Quintin, Pierce, Lathan, Kaden, and Roman. Scott is also survived by his beloved little brother, Ron (Ruby) Abbs, and cherished sister-in-laws, Brenda Terhune and Sharon Dowell. Scott was preceded in death by his parents, Tuffy and Isabell and two brothers, Perry and Monte Abbs.
Titus Funeral Home of Syracuse is entrusted with the care of Scott and his family. Per Scott’s wishes, no funeral will be held at this time. A Celebration of Life will be planned for a future date to honor and remember him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Scott’s memory to the Syracuse Wawasee Park Foundation.
A special thank you to Scott’s Care Team at Goshen Hospital Cancer Center, Goshen Hospital Medical Oncology 4th Floor and Hospice, Waterford Crossing, Senior One, and the wonderful staff at Northwestern DuPage, especially Dr. Alyssa Bolduan, Dr. Robin Buerki, and Dr. Osama Khan.
