Ron Prater, born on May 12, 1955, in Prestonsburg, Kentucky to Virgle and Pearl (Adams) Prater. He passed away on November 25, 2024 surrounded by his family at his Warsaw residence. He married Janice "Jan" Kuhn on December 9, 1973 in Bourbon, IN.
Throughout his life, Ron was known for his steadfast career, initially working for Judd-Cook Chevy before spending many years at Warsaw Transmission. He had a wealth of knowledge when working on vehicles.
He was a huge fan of stock car racing, frequently attending events at the Warsaw Speedway, where the thrill of the races brought him much excitement. His enthusiasm extended to car shows, and he proudly participated in organizing the Rock N' Roll Cruisers. A collector at heart, Ron took special delight in his collection of Matchbox Cars, a testament to his lifelong love of automobiles. He found pleasure in watching Western movies and had a fondness for wrestling, contributing his time with the FWF Wrestling. You could also catch him always watching his favorite football team the Pittsburg Steelers.
Those who knew Ron appreciated his strong personality, which could be described as stern yet deeply loving. He was a man of principles, often expressing the idea that it was "his way or the highway."
Ron is survived by his daughter Angela (William) Dawson and his cherished grandchildren, Dailyn Prater, Virgle Prater, and Jaxon Stephens, Diann Dawson, and Hailey Dawson, and his great-grandchild, Deacon Prater. He is further survived by his siblings Juanita Shepherd, Geneva Bayne, Phyllis (William) Varney, Barbara (Darrell) Prater, Arnold (Amy) Prater and his sister-in-law Judy Prater.
He is preceded in death by his wife Janice Prater, parents and siblings; Wilford, Clifford, Donald, Mary Prater. Along with his nephews Robert Miller and Wesley Prater; brother-in-law Nathan Shepherd and sister-in-law Carol Prater.
Titus Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 2000 Sheridan Street, Warsaw, IN is entrusted with caring for the Prater family. A Life Celebration Visitation will be held at God's Highway to Heaven 555 Webber Street Warsaw, Indiana, on December 2, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at the same location starting at 12:00 PM with Pastor Bob Brown. Ron will be laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery in Warsaw following the service.
