Robert “Bob” Eugene McCullough, of West Terre Haute, passed away peacefully in his home on Monday, October 19, 2026, at the age of 84. He was born on April 25, 1942, in New Castle, Indiana, the son of Robert McCullough and Thelma Montgomery (Sollars).
Bob grew up in a home shared with his mother, his dearly loved grandparents, Hazel and Tony, and his aunts and uncles, who were more like brothers and sisters to him. From a young age, Bob knew the value of work. He worked at the bowling alley and logging alongside his stepfather as a boy and spent his summers working at Isaac Walton in West Terre Haute, helping shape the steady and determined man he would become. He went on to serve in the United States Air Force, where he worked on aircrafts during his time of service. That same dedication carried into his career when he founded his own concrete contracting business, R&M Concrete. Until his retirement in 1992, Bob left his mark on projects throughout Terre Haute, including work at Union Hospital, Indiana State University, and Honey Creek Mall. His skill also reached far beyond home, including concrete work at Disney World in Florida.
Bob was known as a hardworking man with a good sense of humor, and he remained deeply dedicated and loyal to his family throughout his life. He married his best friend, Janet McCullough; they were always together in the ways that mattered most. The two spent their lives raising their three daughters, Tina Sue, Tracie Lynn and Tisha René. Family was at the center of Bob’s world. He loved being together for holidays and Sunday dinners and found his greatest happiness in the closeness his family shared.
He also knew how to enjoy the simple things in life. Bob had a lifelong love of horses, co-owning his very first horse with his longtime friends Keith Hennecke and Wally Howard. In those earlier years, you could often find him looking through racing forms with his best buddies Harley Maples and Bill Joy.
After retirement, Bob moved to Florida and owned racehorses on his own, spending his days tending to horses, working alongside some of the best trainers, and purchasing horses at the Ocala Horse Sale. Several of his horses carried names connected to those he loved, including “Clever Tish” and “Tina Sue,” named after his daughters.
He enjoyed listening to music and dancing, especially to old country, ’50s music, and Motown, and he always enjoyed a good game of euchre or poker. You rarely saw Bob McCullough without a Diet Coke in his hand, and he was a familiar face at Denny’s, where he spent time nearly every day catching up with friends.
At home, Bob loved spending time outdoors working on his landscaping, cutting grass, and especially flowers. He also enjoyed Sudoku puzzles, watching old westerns, and using his tablet. Never one to sit still, he was always working on his next project, whether rearranging furniture, building walls, or adding cabinets. Among his greatest loves were his dogs, Robért, Jobért, Chance, and Zeke, who greeted him in Heaven.
Bob will be remembered for the strength of his work, the warmth of his humor, the loyalty he gave so freely, and the love he carried for his family through every season of life. His memory will live on in the stories shared around dinner tables, in music that invites people to dance, and in the imprint he left on both his family and his friends.
He is survived by his three daughters, Tina (Mark) Ficklin, Tracie (Ron) Smith, and Tisha McCullough; his wife, Janet McCullough; his grandchildren, Janee’ (Dylan) Trueblood, Addisson (Troy) Pearison, Caden (Ian) Flannigan, Dalton McCullough, Donivan Robert (Caitlyn) Ficklin, and Solomon Ficklin; great grandchildren, Renley, Aubrie, Miles, Riggs, Colsen, Foster, Sawyer and Quinn; siblings, Bill (Diane) Downey and Pam (Chris) Stultz; his aunts and uncles, Arletha Lawson “Hunny Bunny”, Norman “Pee Wee” (Susan) Savant and Ladonna Ellsworth; and his extended family Gary Fagg, Jean Savant and many nieces and nephews who held a very special place in his heart. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Elee Fagg; his grandparents, Hazel and Tony Savant; and his aunts and uncles, Jeannie and Bob Boyll, Tony Savant, Leo Ellsworth and Bob Lawson.
Friends and family are invited to stop by Bob’s home anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, 2026, to share memories and celebrate his life. This informal open house will be held at 2314 S. 21st St., Terre Haute, IN 47802. Please come and go as you wish; there will be no formal service.
