Robert James Anderson, 80, died on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 at his home in rural Kimmell, Indiana following a brief illness. Born on September 21, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan, he was the only child of Robert Jackman Anderson and Margaret Patricia (Sorensen) Anderson.

Family was paramount in Bob's life. He shared his journey with his beloved wife, Jean Marie Klipple, whom he married on October 8, 1966 in Livonia, MI. Together, they began their family in Redford, MI raising three children: Cynthia (Joseph) Scheiber of Kimmell, IN, Karen (Bud) Cooper of Churubusco, IN, and Robert (Jenna) Anderson of Kendallville, IN. Bob took great joy in his role as a father and grandfather, cherishing moments with his grandchildren John Scheiber, Katelyn Cooper, Brian Cooper, and Robert Anderson.

Bob's career spanned decades at Quanex, which later became Gerdau MacSteel Incorporated. He began his journey with the company in 1969 in Detroit, MI showcasing his expertise and leadership within the metallurgy field, a passion he pursued after earning his degree from Henry Ford Community College. After transferring to the Huntington MacSteel Heat Treat plant in 1983, he filled the role of plant manager until his retirement in 1999.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bob was deeply involved in his community. He was proud of his impactful contributions to Huntington County through his involvement with various organizations, including serving as president of the Rotary Club, vice president of the Chamber of Commerce, officer of Lime City Economic Development, and as a member of the Huntington County Community Schools board from 1991 to 1997. Notably, he advocated for the reintroduction of trades education to the high school, demonstrating his commitment to education and skill development.

Bob's dedication to business and community service did not go unnoticed. In 1996, he was honored with the Sam Walton Business Leader Award, an accolade presented by the Huntington County Chamber of Commerce in recognition of his exemplary leadership and contributions to the local business landscape.

After his retirement he enjoyed fishing, gardening, and time with friends and family. Bob’s life was one marked by hard work, dedication, and a profound commitment to his family and community. His memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
