Robert W Barnes

November 21, 1946 — April 16, 2024

North Webster

Robert W. Barnes, affectionately known as "Cap'n Bob," passed away unexpectedly on April 16, 2024, at his residence at the age of 77. He was a beloved disc jockey who lent his voice to several radio stations including WARU in Peru, WBAT in Marion, and WLYV in Fort Wayne. Bob was not only a talented voice actor for movies, TV, and radio but also the proud owner of his own voice-over company.

Born on November 21, 1946, to James and Frieda (Smith) Barnes, in Huntington, IN, Bob graduated from Huntington North High School in 1965. Throughout his life, he touched the hearts of many with his charismatic personality. Known for being well-liked and always taking care of others, he had a special talent for bringing joy and laughter to those around him.

Bob’s interests were as diverse as his talents. He found immense joy in performing and singing and often delighted residents of local nursing homes with his musical gifts. His passion for model trains was only rivaled by his affection for his '69 Mustang, which he cherished like a member of the family.

Among his proudest accomplishments was serving on the Board of Directors for the Dixie Sternwheeler, Inc., where he donned the captain's hat for a memorable year. Fondly referred to as the "Singing Skipper," Bob left an indelible mark on all who had the pleasure of working with him during his tenure.

In his passing, Bob leaves behind a legacy that will be forever treasured by all who knew him. He is survived by his daughter, Stacey Lindamood; two stepdaughters, Laura Johnson and Jennifer (Jeremy) Higgins; stepson, Christopher (Leslie) Regan; 11 step grandchildren; sister Jami (Nickolas) Dohrmann; step nieces and nephews; other relatives; and a multitude of friends who will miss his presence dearly. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, stepmother Janie Barnes; and half-brother Ronald (Diana) James.

Titus Funeral Home and Cremation Services is entrusted with Bob’s care. At this time, the family has decided to grieve privately; no services are planned. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Dixie Sternwheeler, Inc.
