Winona Lake

Richard A. Snyder, of Winona Lake, passed away surrounded by his family at Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital in the early morning hour on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at the age of 86.

He was born in Hillsdale County, Michigan on June 18, 1936, the son of Eber and Hazel Snyder (Giauque). Richard was a very well-educated man, graduating from Wheaton College and receiving his master's degree from Dallas Theological Seminary. On June 29, 1957, he married Darlene Coy in Reading, Michigan. The two share eight children.

Professionally, Richard was a pastor for over 40 years in four different churches. He started his career at Walker Bible Church in Iowa. He then  pastored at Calvary Bible Church in Michigan where he also led drive-in Sunday night services as well as Volinia Baptist Church and later Fundamental Gospel Church back in Iowa. Richard truly had a passion for ministry and loved his congregations. He was involved in making summer parade floats for the church and Easter egg hunts. After retirement, he became a member of Community Bible Church in Warsaw. He also faithfully delivered the Times Union paper as well as “missed” papers throughout Kosciusko County for 15 years during his retirement.

Richard loved woodworking and trains, especially railroad trains. He made each child a wooden manger scene from a tree which fell outside their family home. Richard also was an avid, very detailed bird watcher. Most of all, he loved his family and cherished the time spent with them.

Along with his wife of 65 years, Darlene, he is survived by his children, Steve (Peri) Snyder, Dan Snyder, Becky (Rick) Lewis, Paul (Julia) Snyder, Brian (Caryn) Snyder, and Marilyn Ruth (Kevin) Lilly; grandchildren, Kelsey (fiancé Andrew Robison) Lewis, Stacy (Gavin) Beamish, Phillip Lewis, Josiah (Alexis) Snyder, Ben Snyder, Carson Snyder, Claire Snyder, Natalie Snyder, Cameron Lilly, Micah Lilly, Jordan Lilly, and Beth Snyder; and three great grandchildren. He is further survived by many extended family members and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; children , Michael and Marcia Snyder; and siblings, Thelma Snyder Hubbell, Russell Cole, Virgil Cole, Ardath Cole Gillette, Hubert Snyder, and Genieve Snyder Todd.
