Richard Alan Long

Richard A. Long, lifelong resident of the Mentone area and retired to Warsaw, passed away on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana at the age of 80.
 
Born on December 3, 1942, Richard was the son of Joseph and Mary Ellen (Plummer) Long. After graduating from Mentone High School in 1960, he started working  for R.R. Donnelley, after leaving Donnelleys he became a truck driver for Maple Leaf Farms for several years. He was a farmer all of his life. Diligent and conscientious, Richard knew the importance of hard work. On December 7, 1991, Richard married Carol Maggart, who survives at home in Warsaw.
 
Richard was an avid racing fan, a follower of Tony Stewart. He also supported his son Rex who was a late model driver. Richard was the owner of Rex's race car and assistance in the pit crew. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Carol and was a member of the Warsaw Moose Lodge.
 
In addition to Carol, Richard’s wife, those who survive with memories to cherish include his daughter, Lesa (Cliff) Newsome of Mentone; three stepdaughters: Kimberly Long of Indianapolis, Jessica (Tracy) Marshall and Katharine Nixon both of Warsaw; eight grandchildren: Michele Isgett, Trenton Newsome, Cody, RJ, Mark, and Jerica Long, Hannah Schultz and James Leiter; eight great grandchildren and brother, Rick (Anne) Long of South Bend. Richard was preceded in passing by his son, Rex; Grandsons: Ryan and Kyle Newsome.
 
Titus Funeral Home and Cremation Services is entrusted with Richard’s care. A private graveside service will be held at Harrison Center Cemetery (also known as Wooden Cemetery) with the Rev. David Banning officiating. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association, 8720 Castle Creek Parkway East Drive, Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46250.
