Paul V. Sands

Paul V. Sands, 86, of Syracuse, IN passed away at 5:09 p.m. on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at Paddock Springs Healthcare in Warsaw, IN. He was born on March 6, 1935 on the family farm in Tefft, IN to Edward Henry & Lura Pearl (Asher) Sands.

He graduated in 1953 from Tefft High School, was married in 1954 to Edith Bailey, and together they had 3 children. He was then married on June 28, 1980 in Valparaiso, IN to Nancy L. (Gurnsey) Wilson who survives. He was a farmer since the age 18 and moved to the Syracuse / Milford area in December 1961. Besides farming he worked as a mechanic at several industries with the last one being Smoker Craft in New Paris.

He was a 43 year member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Syracuse, a progressive farmer, and a good husband to the land.    He loved to drive the tractor, especially the “red ones”. He enjoyed going to farm, antique, and toy tractor shows with his wife.

He is survived by:

Wife – Nancy Sands of Syracuse

Daughter – Pamela G. (Richard) Roth of St. Petersburg, FL

2 Sons – Timothy W. (Shandon) Sands of Yuba City, CA & Joseph L. (Myra) Sands of Milford

2 Step Daughters - Rhonda Estrada of Leesburg & Annette (Will) Austin of Carmel, IN

7 Grand, 6 Step Grand, and 9 Gt. Grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister – Betty Gratner, brother - Gerald Sands, 2 half-sisters – Maude & Mary, and half-brother- Robert

Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 17, 2022 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 18, 2022 at the funeral home with Pastor Mindy Huffman officiating. Graveside services will be on Friday in the San Pierre Public Cemetery.
