Norma Bitner

April 3, 1927 — December 5, 2007

Norma M. Bitner, 80, of Ligonier died Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at her residence in Ligonier. She was born on April 3, 1927 in Syracuse to Harvey S. & Ruth (Lung) Cole.

She grew up in New York and graduated from Peekskill High School in Peekskill, NY. She moved back to Noble County in the 1940's from New York. She graduated in 1974 with honors from Indiana/Purdue University in Fort Wayne.

She retired in 1995 from West Noble High School as an English Teacher after 20 years. She was a member of the Cromwell United Methodist Church and enjoyed all kinds of group dancing and playing cards. When she was young she raised many Arabian horses.

She is survived by:
1 Daughter - Mrs. Dan (Lori) Reynolds of Ligonier
2 Grandsons - Ryan (wife, Kelley) Reynolds of Columbia City & Nathan (wife, Erica) Reynolds of Ligonier

She was preceded by her parents - Harvey Cole & Ruth Weaver, 1 Daughter - Kathy Bitner, & 1 Son - Wendell Bitner

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 9, 2007 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN with Rev. Dr. Cynthia Reynolds, Distric Superintendant of the United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Sparta Cemetery, 2683 N. US 33, Kimmell, IN. No visitation is planned.

Memorial bequests may be given to the Humane Society of Noble County, P.O. Box 471, Kendallville, IN 46755, Cromwell United Methodist Church, or International Heifer project in Goshen.
