Miriam Orten

Miriam Orten, age 80, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2025 at The Waters of Syracuse She was born in Goshen, IN on January 22, 1945 to Walter and Hazel Graff. She was a devoted homemaker whose life was dedicated to caring for her family and creating a warm and loving environment for all who knew her. She married Eric Orten on May 26, 1962.

Miriam was well-known for her exceptional cooking and baking skills, particularly her beloved banana bread, which became a favorite among her family and friends. She found great joy in preparing meals that brought everyone together, always believing that the kitchen was the heart of the home. Her love for gospel music filled her home with uplifting sounds, echoing her deep faith as she attended Grace Bible Baptist Church, where she was an active member of her community.

Her personality was a blend of kindness, thoughtfulness, and humor; Miriam had a gift for giving great advice, often brightening the days of those around her with her warm spirit. She will be remembered as a sweet and nurturing presence whose love extended far beyond her immediate family.

Miriam is survived by her beloved children, Rhonda (Michael) Waggoner of Syracuse, Carolyn Rollins of Columbia City, and Rebecca (Robert) Larkin of Goshen, along with 15 cherished grandchildren who will carry her legacy forward.

She was preceded in death by her husband Eric Orten, daughters Jennifer Garza, Angela and Sarah Orten, granddaughter Nicole Orten, and her parents. Additionally, Miriam is mourned by 14 siblings who shared many memories and life experiences with her.

Her warmth and generosity will be remembered and celebrated during her visitation on September 23, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, and the funeral service, which will follow at Grace Bible Baptist Church, located at 68080 Division St, New Paris, IN 46553, at 6:00 PM. Arrangements were entrusted to Titus Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 1001 South Huntington Street, Syracuse, IN 46567.
