Mildred Gilbert, age 98, passed away on May 4, 2025, at The Waters of Syracuse. She was born on August 4, 1926, in Cross Plains, Tennessee to Gil and Effie (Simmons) Jernigan. She would marry her first husband Vernon Gilbert on August 31, 1945.
Mildred had a notable career as a customer service representative at United Telephone Company, where her dedication to her work was evident. Outside of her professional life, Mildred found joy in tending to her garden, particularly her beloved petunias, an activity that brought her immense happiness and serenity.
She attended the North Webster Church of God. She enjoyed spending time with her family, creating countless cherished memories that will live on in the hearts of her loved ones.
Mildred is survived by her children, Vicki (Francis) Means of Syracuse and Kevin (Pam) Gilbert of Syracuse; her grandchildren, Abigail (Grant) Sanders, Grant (Haley) Gilbert, Spencer (Daryann) Gilbert, Ellisa (Andrew) Hepler, Kerri (John) Nyikos, and Sean (Christina) Brennaman; as well as 14 great-grandchildren, all of whom were a source of great joy and pride for her.
She was preceded in death by her first spouse, Vernon Gilbert, and her second spouse, Walter Gilbert. Additionally, she has reunited with her parents and siblings, Doug Jernigan, Emma Jernigan, and Hubert Jernigan, who have all gone before her.
Arrangements are entrusted to Titus Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 8056 E. 500 N. North Webster, IN 46555. A visitation will be held on May 8, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM held in the funeral home, followed by her funeral service starting at 2:00 PM. Following the funeral she will be laid to rest at Mock Addition North Webster Cemetery.
