Michael J. Magid, age 73, of Syracuse, passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, in Syracuse, Indiana. He was born on June 27, 1952 to Sam and Frances (Meisler) Magid in Detroit, Michigan. He married Marilla Jager on November 29, 2013. Michael’s life was marked by a steadfast commitment to his students, family, and passions that enriched those around him.
Michael dedicated 39 years of his life to teaching at the high school level, shaping countless young minds with both wisdom and kindness. Beyond the classroom, he was well known as a passionate Football and Track Coach at West Noble and Wawasee Schools, where his guidance extended far beyond sports, instilling values of integrity, hard work, and teamwork. His leadership was further recognized through his role as ISTA President, reflecting his commitment to education and advocacy.
A proud graduate of Berkley High School, Class of 1970, Michael went on to earn his Master’s degree from Western Michigan University, solidifying the foundation for his lifelong dedication to learning and teaching. His colleagues and students alike remember him as a man of integrity, generosity, and good humor—a teacher who could inspire a smile even on the toughest days.
Michael’s interests mirrored his vibrant personality. A huge Michigan Wolverines fan, he found joy in all things Detroit—from Motown music to Michigan football—capturing the spirit of his hometown far beyond its borders. He was an active member of Kiwanis, the Syracuse Eagles and lent his time enthusiastically as a Little League coach and umpire, continuing his passion for youth sports in many forms. Additionally, Michael had a deep love for war movies and treasured moments spent with his grandchildren, his dog, Sugar Bear, and his entire family.
Michael’s family remembers him as a deeply giving and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Marilla Magid of Syracuse; his children, Justin (Tiffany) Magid, Shauna Magid, and Brandon Magid, all of Fishers; and two cherished grandchildren. Michael is also survived by his sister-in-law, Jeannie Magid of Detroit. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Janice Magid, and his brother, Lawrence Magid. His legacy is one of unwavering dedication—to his profession, his loved ones, and to the community he served with warmth and humor. He will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A gathering of family and friends will take place from 10am-12 noon on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at Titus Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington Street, Syracuse, IN 46567. A Life Celebration Service will take place at 12 noon following the gathering. Pastor Brad Cox will officiate. Burial will take place at Syracuse Cemetery at a later date.
