Mercedes L. Williams, affectionately known as "Cede", passed away peacefully at Paddock Springs in Warsaw on Thursday, April 18, 2024, at the age of 94.
Born on September 9, 1929, in Huntington County IN, she was the daughter of Otto and Vera (Minton) Heitz. After graduating from Lancaster Township School, Cede married the love of her life, Gaylord Williams on September 11, 1949. They celebrated 72 years of marriage before his passing in 2021. They raised their family in Huntington and then moved to Chapman Lake in 1972. Cede led a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion to her family.
Alongside her beloved husband, they traveled 48 states and after retirement they embraced the snowbird lifestyle, spending winters in Florida and the rest of the year at Chapman Lake – truly living life to the fullest. Cede was a spunky, fun-loving lady, and always up for a celebration. She enjoyed entertaining others and was known for her great cooking skills and her compassion to take care of others. She enjoyed the simple pressures of life, whether it was cheering on her grandkids at every ball game, camping with family or embarking on adventures out on the lake, she cherished these moments of togetherness. She was also very artistic and enjoyed painting, drawing, sewing, and crocheting.
Cede leaves behind an enduring legacy cherished by her surviving family: children Jeff Williams and Joy (Brian) Conrad; grandchildren Kevin Hackworth, Kyle Hackworth, Kara (David) Plaehn, Nick (Elizabeth) Allen, Misty (Nate) Lewis; great-grandchildren Kaily (Scott Richardson) Hackworth, Kaimen Hackworth, Griffin Plaehn; along with great-great-granddaughter Milly Richardson. She was called “Grandma” by many friends, neighbors and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gaylord; parents; and sister, Flossie Scott.
