Marlene K. Fugate (Spiegel), of Warsaw and longtime resident of North Webster, passed away peacefully
surrounded by her family at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne on Thursday September 8, 2022, at the age of 68.
Born in Warsaw, Indiana on December 15, 1953, she was the daughter of Harold and Marjorie Spiegel (Angel).
She attended Wawasee High School. On December 23, 1975, she married the love of her life Gary Fugate in
North Webster. They spent 46 years together before his passing in December of 2021. Marlene worked several
jobs, most recently at KCH, but her main focus was taking care of her four children.
As the spunky and fiery person she was, Marlene stayed her true self and always protected those around her,
especially when it came to her family, whose happiness she always placed before her own. She enjoyed
spending time with her children and grandchildren. One of her favorite activities was sharing meals with her
family, and especially at a buffet restaurant; she was a true ‘foodie.’ She would find recipes online for her
daughter to cook. Marlene also enjoyed puzzles, garage sales, and she was an avid reader.
Those who survive with broken hearts include her children, Jason (Joel Seagle) Fugate of Warsaw, Courtney
(Jennifer) Fugate of Tallahassee, FL, Jesse Fugate of Burket, and Tracy (Martin) Allmon of Warsaw; 12
grandchildren; one great grandchild; brothers, Steve Angel of Plymouth, and Ronnie (Betsy) Spiegel of North
Webster; sister, Cheryl (Dirk) Ferverda of Milford; and sisters-in-law, Sheryl Fugate of Warsaw, Norma
(Kevin) Fugate-Gipson of Peru, and Carol Caudill of Viper, Kentucky. She is further survived by many
extended family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gary; and brothers-in-
law, David Fugate, Ken Caudill, and Jim Fugate.
Owen Family Funeral Home of North Webster is entrusted with the care of Marlene. Friends and family may
gather for her celebration of life on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at 1:00 pm at Center Lake Pavilion, 119 E
Canal St, Warsaw, IN 46580. Burial will take place privately in the Mock Addition of the North Webster
Cemetery. To make a donation in Marlene’s honor, memorial gifts are appreciated to St. Jude Children’s
Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
