Mark Sponseller, a devoted Missionary and Pre-planning Specialist, passed away on January 17, 2026, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Born on June 28, 1948, in Warsaw, Indiana to Charles and Vera Jean (McGary) Sponseller, Mark dedicated his life to serving others, embodying the principles of faith and compassion throughout his extensive career.
A proud graduate of North Webster High School in 1966, Mark furthered his education at Ball State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Genetic Biology, complemented by minors in Chemistry and Natural Resources. His commitment to education did not end there; he also attended the Language Institute in McAllen, Texas, where he mastered the Spanish language in an exceptional nine months, graduating as Valedictorian of his class.
Mark's passion for service led him to a remarkable 50-year ministry to the Latin American people, where he worked tirelessly as a missionary and church planter in countries such as Mexico, Chile, and Argentina. He became fluent in Spanish, which allowed him to connect deeply with the communities he served. Every Friday, Mark co-hosted a Christian radio broadcast in Argentina, continuing to share his faith and message until his passing. Additionally, he conducted monthly livestreams with a church in Argentina, affirming his lifelong devotion to spreading hope and love. Through Mark and his family, they were able to plant several churches, many of which are still growing and thriving which is a source of great pride and joy.
Alongside his missionary work, Mark had a significant impact on the funeral industry in Indiana, serving as a Funeral Pre-Planning Specialist for nearly 30 years at various funeral homes, including Loose Funeral Home, DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home and Titus Funeral Home, and throughout the Rio-Grande Valley. His compassionate approach helped many families navigate the complexities of pre-planning.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mark cherished his time spent living on Big Barbee Lake in Pierceton, Indiana. He also found great joy in nurturing the environment around him by planting trees he had nurtured from seeds, reflecting his patience, determination and profound love for nature.
Mark is survived by his beloved wife, Susie Sponseller; his children, Nathanael, Daniel, Judith, and Beth Sponseller; and his grandchildren, Olivia, Vincent, Sophia, and Anna Sponseller. He is also survived by his siblings, Jeffery (Barbara) Sponseller and Jerome (Kay) Sponseller.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents. His legacy of service, love, and dedication will continue to inspire all who knew him. He will be remembered fondly as a dedicated and passionate soul who left a lasting impact on many lives.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts for Mark may be given to BNF (Blood n Fire) Ministries, 300 N Madison St, Muncie, IN 47305.
The family will be having a Celebration of Life at a later date. Titus Funeral Home is entrusted with caring for Mark and his family.
