Marilynne Curtis, beloved mom, grandmother, great grandmother and loyal friend died on December 23, 2025 with her two daughters by her side in Stuart, FL. She was 92 years old.
Born in Pierceton, Indiana to James Otto and Nellie (Devenney) Tuttle on July 28, 1933, Marilynne was the last child in a family of seven brothers and sisters - Maurice Tuttle, Gordon (Naomi)Tuttle, Helen (Keith)Tuttle Smith, Betty (Carl) Tuttle Burnworth, John (Edna)Tuttle and Marjorie Tuttle, all deceased.
Marilynne graduated from Pierceton High School in 1951. She later earned her B.S. in Business from Indiana University - Bloomington in 1956, and later her M.S. in Education from Indiana University - Bloomington in 1962. During her time at IU, Marilynne was a proud sister and past President of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, where she was known as "Miki".
Marilynne married Carroll Edwin "Curt" Curtis on December 27, 1958 at the Warsaw Presbyterian Church. They were married for over 33 years before Curt passed away in 1992. Marilynne and Curt enjoyed many wonderful years in their cottage and then full time home on Chapman Lake with their 2 daughters. Their homes in Springfield, Ohio and Warsaw, Indiana were always one of fun, family, friendship and festivities - whether it was their Christmas Eve party with a suprise visit from Santa, ringing in the New Year with friends and families, or the infamous "Champagne and Egg Breakfasts" at the lake. They always had a reason to celebrate. They enjoyed traveling to England and China in the 1980s. In April of 1991 Curt and Marilynne, along with their best friends/couples - Frank and Mary Manwaring and Ted and Joanne McMillin, chartered a sailboat with a captain and cook to travel the Caribbean Islands.
Marilynne later married John Stauffer July 7, 2011 in Winona Lake. They enjoyed spending time at Chapman Lake, Winona Lake and winters in Jensen Beach, FL. They shared love, companionship, reading, learning and traveling in the continental United States until his passing May 17, 2022.
Family and friends were paramount to Marilynne. She loved spending her time with her daughters and their children. Spending time with her children, grandchildren and great granddaughter was her greatest joy. She loved living on Chapman Lake, where she had lived since she was 18. Enjoying all lake activities - boating, fishing, skiing. Her friendships in the Lake Lovers of Chapman offered great fun and lifetime friendships. Her flower gardens gave her a great source of enjoyment. After retirement, Marilynne spent her winters in Jensen Beach, FL on Hutchinson Island. She always made a friend wherever she went and truly cherished and cultivated those friendships. Those friendships help to enhance a fun and adventurous family home. She is survived by her daughters, Stephanie (Kris) Kehoe of Jensen Beach, FL and Katrina (Dave) Archer of Fishers, IN. Her grandchildren, Curtis (Gaby) Archer, Carlie Archer, Cooper Archer and Patrick Steffer; great granddaughter Magnolia Archer; 2 sisters in law - Suzanne Curtis and Phyllis Curtis; and many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and the immediate and extended family of John Stauffer.
Marilynne enjoyed her 34 years as an educator. Her early career began teaching at Pierceton High School, then Warsaw High School and Northside High School in Fort Wayne, then later as Guidance Director at both Greenon High School in Enon, OH and Wawasee High School in Syracuse. She especially enjoyed working with college admissions and financial aid for college bound students. Her passion for higher education was an inspiration to many of her former students. She was a member of the National Educators Association, Indiana Retired Teachers Association and Kosciusko County Retired Teachers, where she had served in the past as Secretary.
Always very active in the Warsaw community she served as a Life Member of Indiana University Alumni - member of Kosciusko County IU Alumni Chapter and acted as past treasurer. She was a 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She volunteered her time to "Meals on Wheels" and also serving as a tour guide for the Kosciusko County Visitors Center. She was on the Board of Directors of Big Brothers and Big Sisters, while also being a "Big". She was a past member of the Board of Directors of Warsaw Home Health Care and member of the Health Care Foundation in Warsaw. She enjoyed attending plays at the Wagon Wheel where she had attended since they started in 1956, and where she was also was a member of the Directors Club. Marilynne enjoyed playing golf and was a past member, Treasurer and President of the Tippecanoe Lake Country Club Ladies 9 Holers. She had 2 holes-in-one in her lifetime!
A Celebration of Life/Memorial Service is being planned for the summer of 2026. Time and date to be announced at a later time.
