Listen to Obituary

The tiny but mighty Maria Barley, age 65, of Warsaw, passed away on June 22, 2026, at Stillwater Hospice. This one-of-a-kind woman was born in Brownsville, Texas, on March 19, 1961.

Maria began working in the agricultural fields of the Midwest in her early teens. She eventually followed her family and settled in the Warsaw area. A hardworking woman who was extremely proud of her independence, Maria stood only 4 feet 11 inches tall and weighed 90 pounds, yet she could outwork someone twice her size—and she was never afraid to let them know if they were slacking.

Quick, witty, and a total spitfire, Maria was known for telling it like it was. She was genuine to a fault; if she loved you, you felt it, and you always knew exactly where you stood with her. Her presence will be truly missed by all her family and friends.

Maria’s family was the cornerstone of her life. She was incredibly proud of them and cherished every moment spent together, from cookouts and parties to playing "Lotteria" around the kitchen table. Possessing a highly competitive spirit, she especially enjoyed winning and making sure everyone knew who was ahead.

Maria’s memory will continue with her brother, Rogelio (Katrina) Aguilar. She leaves behind her nieces: Liliana (Trent) Stamper of Warsaw, Diana Aguilar of Elkhart, Vanessa Aguilar of Elkhart, Olivia Aguilar-Park of Virginia, Elizabeth Aguilar of Fort Wayne, and Jony Aguilar of Warsaw, as well as her nephews: Isidro "Jr." (Ivonne) Ireta of Texas, Luis Adrian (Christine) Ireta of Texas, and Micah (Kylie) Aguilar of Fort Wayne. Family was always central to Maria’s life, and she found joy in being together.

She is reunited in peace with her brothers, Roberto Aguilar and Jose Luis Aguilar; her sisters, Maria De Jesusa and Maria De Diana; and two nieces and two nephews whose names remain in the hearts of the family.
