Lawrence Blanchard

Lawrence "L.B." Blanchard, beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away peacefully in his residence on Thursday, December 7, 2023, at the age of 88. He was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana on September 18, 1935, to Walter Lewis Blanchard and Mildred A. Blanchard (Phillips).

L.B. led a fulfilling life built on hard work and cherished relationships. After graduating from Columbia City High School in 1953, he embarked on a journey that would span over five decades as a truck driver. He joined the United States Army, where he also worked as a truck driver. After being honorably discharged, L.B. worked for various companies throughout his career, with his most recent employment at Metzger and Mercer Trucking. He retired in 2008. L.B. travelled millions of miles throughout the US and Canada in his career.

L.B. always enjoyed coffee with his friends at the coffee shop. He and his friends were the “Liars Table”. He was a longtime member of both the American Legion Post 98 and the AmVets Post 2919, along with formerly being a former member of the masonic lodge. L.B. also enjoyed watching the Indianapolis Colts and I.U. Basketball, and bird watching by the pond.

Above all else, L.B. loved his family. His love for his children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews knew no bounds. He is survived by his sons, Bryan (Connie) Blanchard or South Whitley and Joe (Suzanne) Meggison of Ashland, IL; his daughters, Shea Blanchard of Huntington and Taylor Blanchard of Wabash; grandchildren, Josie, Gentry, Gabby, and Jaxon; and his sister, Velma Woll. He is also survived by his late wife, Regina’s children and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Phyllis; second wife, Zola; and sister, Beth Cramer.
