Kristy E. Schmitt

May 22, 1952 — October 26, 2023

Warsaw

Kristy E. Schmitt, a lifetime member of the community, was surrounded by her family at the time of her passing on October 26, 2023. Born on May 22, 1952, in Warsaw, IN, to Mirl and Betty (Rose) Leek. Kristy was a cherished daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Kristy married Paul Schmitt on January 30, 1971 in Berrien Springs, Michigan.

Kristy led a fulfilling life and touched the hearts of many with her warm presence. After graduating from Warsaw Community High School in 1970, she embarked on a journey that saw her contribute to various organizations and professions throughout her career. Kristy worked at several places including the Warsaw Community Public Library and the offices of Dr. Cross and Dr. Asthon. She also lent her skills to the Kosciusko Medical Group.

A dedicated and engaged member of her community, Kristy was an active participant in various endeavors. She was proud to be part of the Kosciusko Police Wives Group and found great fulfillment in involvement with her children's extracurricular activities during their school years. Among her many interests and hobbies, Kristy especially adored Christmas time when she would lovingly decorate her house for festive celebrations with her family. She also had a passion for camping and traveling with her loved ones - spending many pleasant years wintering in Florida after relishing memorable trips to St. Pete Beach in Florida. Furthermore; she selflessly volunteered during Osh Kosh in Wisconsin and was a volunteer at Warsaw Community Church safety team and worked in the bookstore.

In quieter moments, Kristy found solace in indulging in one of her favorite pastimes - watching General Hospital. She delighted in following the captivating storylines and deeply wanted Jason Morgan to come back as a character.

Kristy's vibrant personality brought joy and laughter to those around her; she had a talent for infusing humor into everyday life situations. Described as sassy, she possessed a unique charm that endeared her to family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren alike. Her love for family was immeasurable and served as a guiding force throughout her life.

In addition to her treasured family bonds, Kristy held a special place in her heart for her dogs. Over the years, she raised several Yorkshire Terriers along with other dogs, forming deep connections with these loyal companions. Putting together puzzles, playing cards with friends and taking an active role in planning high school reunions was also something that gave her joy. What she was most passionate about was her faith and she wanted to be sure that everyone had a chance to know Jesus Christ.

Kristy is survived by her husband Paul Schmitt and children; Jennifer (Dave) Byall of Warsaw, Michelle (Bill) Roark of Warsaw, Brandon (Angie) Schmitt of Warsaw, and Chris (Kim) Schmitt of Littleton, Colorado. She is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and one great-grandchild on the way.
