June Hook, a remarkable woman who dedicated her life to serving others, has passed away at the age of 88. She was born on May 10, 1935, in Pontiac, MI to Elwyn and Vera Bentley. June was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
June had a diverse and fulfilling career that spanned several careers. She felt called to the mission field for many years and later found herself working as a bookkeeper, registrar for a prison, and as a guardian for the differently abled. In addition to these roles, she also started a home for children and served as the Dean of Women for a Bible College. June was known for her strong work ethic and her unwavering dedication to whatever task was at hand.
Not only did June excel in her professional life, but she also made a significant impact within her community and church; she will be fondly remembered for singing in the choir and serving as the church pianist. Her musical talents brought joy to those around her during worship services and special events.
June's educational journey was equally impressive. She graduated from Byron Agricultural School in 1954 before obtaining her Bachelor's Degree from John Wesley College with a focus on Behavioral Services. Her thirst for knowledge and passion for helping others were evident in both her studies and her career choices.
Known for being someone who would "tell it like it is," June had a straightforward personality. She never shied away from speaking the truth with love and compassion. In her free time, June delighted in genealogy research and was proud of tracing back her family tree. Additionally, she was a devoted member of Columbia City Evangelical Presbyterian Church where she found strength in fellowship and spiritual growth.
June lived a long and fruitful life that overflowed with blessings, especially when it came to her family. She was married twice, first to Robert Colby and then to David Hook - both of whom have passed. She was also preceded in passing by her parents, Elwyn and Vera and by her siblings: Arthur, Phyllis, Virginia, Robert, Laurence and Dale Bentley.
June is lovingly remembered by her children: Sally (Michael) DeWald, Robert (Deanna) Colby, Darcy Arias, Shannon Bauer, David (Bonnie) Hook, Paul (Dana) Hook, and Amy Barchini; 21 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and brother, Jerry (Katherine) Bentley.
