Joan Margherone, passed away on September 25, 2024, at the age of 92; surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 7, 1932 to Jan and Anna Mierzwa in Chicago, Illinois. She married her husband Bill Margherone on May 4, 1952. They were married for 72 years before Bill's passing on June 6, 2024. Joan is survived by her loving children, Daughter Susan (John) Rak of Barbee Lake and son Joseph (Diane) Margherone of Dewart Lake. Three grandchildren: John (Becky) Rak, Crystal (Grant) Oostema and Phillip (Melissa) Rak. Five great-grandchildren; Lilli, Addie, Lincoln, JoJo, and Avery.
Joan will always be remembered always for her hard work ethic, both on the job and at home. Joan was a wonderful cook, her specialties: pasta and meatballs, eggplant parmesan and farmers pork chops. At the end of such meals, Bill would declare his love for her by saying: "I think I'm gonna keep ya for one more year Joannie!" Joan cherished time spent with her children and extended family and had a deep love for Christmas. She also enjoyed playing Pinochle for a quarter. Joan was well known for her quick wit and snappy comebacks. She deeply loved her grandchildren and their spouses, always happy and pleased with their achievements. She will be remembered by her great-grandchildren for: go fish, telestrations, snack time after school and morning ice cream.
She was preceded in death by her parents and nine siblings, all of whom she held dear throughout her life.
Visitation: October 4, 2024, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, located at 500 S Jefferson St, Lockport, IL, from 9:30 AM until 10:15 AM.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:15 AM a funeral mass will take place honoring Joan and her husband William. Burial for Joan and William will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice, Illinois.
Arrangements are entrusted to Titus Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 2000 Sheridan Street, Warsaw, IN 46580.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
