North Webster

Jay Overmyer, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and a devoted member of the North Webster community, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on Monday, March 11, 2024, at the age of 81. He was born in Hartford City on July 11, 1942, to his loving parents Richard and Vivian Overmyer (Beetley).

Jay graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1960 where he played basketball and went on to pursue further studies at Ball State University where he also played basketball. Jay enjoyed many lasting friendships from his basketball career.

In his professional life, Jay was employed by Heaters Engineering as a Sales Engineer and also worked at Zimmer Biomet before retiring in 2005.

Outside of his professional life, Jay had a wide range of hobbies and interests that brought him joy such as singing in his church choir and as a member of the Chain-O-Lakes Barbershop Chorus.

He was an avid IU Basketball fan who enjoyed woodworking and watching western movies (specifically John Wayne). Jay was a longtime involved member and lay leader of North Webster United Methodist Church. He actively contributed to the community as a member of the Sons of the American Legion, the Lions Club of North Webster, and delivering for Meals on Wheels. He found peace and happiness being poolside or on the lake with family, indulging in fun activities like boating, swimming, fly fishing and kayaking.

Above all else, Jay treasured his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife of 27 years, Andrea Overmyer and a loving father to Brad (Beth) Overmyer, Sean (Cheryl) Overmyer, Adrienne (Vern) Cranor, Angie (Mike Ousley) Shoemaker, Natalie (Ed) Legendre, and Amanda (Joe) Fretz.
