James E. "Jim" Sarber

James Ellsworth "Jim" Sarber, age 88, of Claypool, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026 at his residence. He was born on March 15, 1937, in Warsaw, Indiana, to James and Mary (Ellsworth) Sarber. He married Doris Lorraine Ewers on June 23, 1956 in Warsaw, Indiana. She passed away in 2004.


Jim was a proud graduate of Warsaw High School, Class of 1955, and furthered his education at Purdue University. He managed and eventually owned Dittos Supermarket, where he was known for his friendly demeanor and business acumen. He then worked at the Indiana Department of Transportation, where he worked diligently for 22 years as a Unit Foreman.


A devoted member of the First United Methodist Church and the Lions Club in Claypool, Jim made significant contributions to his community. His faith and service were foundational elements of his life, guiding his actions and relationships with others.


Jim found joy in a variety of pastimes, including fishing and spending winters in Alabama, where he enjoyed the warmth and camaraderie of friends and family. He was also an avid watcher of Hallmark movies and enjoyed engaging in Bingo at the senior center, where he formed lasting friendships.


Jim leaves behind his beloved sons, Randy Sarber of Plymouth and Roger (Marie) Sarber of Claypool, alongside five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren who will cherish his memory. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, and his sister, Sara Bridger, who all held a special place in his heart.

Jim will be remembered for his unwavering spirit, generous heart, and the love he extended to everyone around him. His legacy will continue through his family and the many lives he touched throughout his remarkable journey. Titus Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2000 Sheridan Street, Warsaw Indiana has been entrusted with Jim's care. A graveside service will be held at Graceland Cemetery in Claypool, Indiana at a later date. Pastor Brian Smith will officiate.
