James W. “Jim” Kitson
, 96, of Syracuse, IN passed away at 2:20 p.m. on Friday, May 14, 2010 at Millers Merry Manor in Syracuse. He was born on February 14, 1914 in Milford, IN to Cressell Jay & Lena Lenora (Gordy) Kitson.
He graduated in 1932 from Syracuse High School and was married on June 26, 1937 in Goshen, IN to Vera J. Williamson, who preceded him in death on March 31, 2008. He retired in 1955 from Days Transfer Trucking in Elkhart after 25 years and was a retired in 1980 from farming. He drove school bus for the Fairfield Community Schools for 15 years.
He was a lifetime Elkhart / Kosciusko County area resident except for four years that he and his wife lived in Brandon, FL during the early 1980’s. He was a member of the St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church in Syracuse and a former member of the Lion’s club in Syracuse.
He is survived by:
1 Daughter – Mrs. Vincent (Charmaine A.) Doyle of Syracuse
1 Son – Phillip (wife, Lorraine) Kitson of Celina, OH
5 Grand, 8 Gt. Grand, & 9 Gt. Gt. Grandchildren
He was preceded by his parents, wife, sister – Genevieve Vorhis & brother – Robert “Haskell” Kitson
Visitation will be from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 21, 2010 at the Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN. Graveside services will be held on 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 22, 2010 at the Syracuse Cemetery.
Memorial bequests may be given to the St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, 1413 N. Long Dr., Syracuse, IN 46567. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
