James Gilbert Harrison, known to most as Gil, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Stillwater Hospice in Fort Wayne at the age of 83. Born on December 4, 1942, in Washington DC, Gil lived a life marked by both professional accomplishment and deep commitment to his loved ones.
Gil began his professional career by founding Harrison and Son Plumbing and Heating in Warsaw, a business he built from the ground up with diligence and integrity. After years of commitment and earning himself the respect and trust of many throughout his career, he retired in 2017.
On November 17, 1984, Gil married his beloved wife, Janet, with whom he shared many decades of partnership and love. Together, they nurtured a close-knit family that was central to Gil's life.
Beyond his professional achievements and his family, Gil was a man of many interests. He was a skilled bowler who once played in a league for many years. He also found relaxation and enjoyment in watching westerns, especially during his retirement years. His passion for antique cars was well-known among those close to him, and he was a fan of Brenda Lee's music. Demonstrating discipline, focus, and seriousness, Gil earned a third-degree blackbelt.
Gil is survived by his wife, Janet; children, Kathy (Kevin) Smith and Brandon (Rhonda) Prater; grandchildren, Kayla, Kyle, Kole, Keyan, Haley, and Hope; and seven great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his sister, Linda (Rick) Parsons and his beloved dog, Shelly, as well as many extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, children, Lena and Benny Harrison, two sisters and three brothers.
Visitation for Gil will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm at the Warsaw Family Worship Center, 1250 Husky Trail, Warsaw, IN 46582. The memorial service will begin at 4 with Pastor William Whitaker officiating.
His family kindly requests that memorial gifts in Gil’s honor be given to Stillwater Hospice or the Animal Welfare League. To leave a condolence, please visit www.TitusFuneralHome.com
