James R. Charles, age 65, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2026, in Syracuse, Indiana. He was born on September 16, 1960 in Miami, Florida to Rodney Lee and Judith (Murphy) Charles. He married Laura Christman on August 6, 1983 in Stuart, Florida.

James was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Laura Charles of Syracuse, and a proud father to his three children: Jonathan Charles of Corpus Christi, Stephanie (Mario) Loya of Goshen, and Rebecca (Michael) Mitschelen of Nappanee. His legacy continues to thrive through his five grandchildren and one great-grandchild, who brought immense joy to his life. With siblings by his side, he shared close bonds with his brothers, Clay (Jodie) Charles of Stuart, Florida, and William (Wendy) Charles of Leesburg, Georgia, as well as with his sister, Sandy (Brian) Jerrells of Hobesounds, Florida. In his passing, James joins his dear parents and sister, Susie Charles who preceded him in death. Each relationship underscored the deep love and respect that defined James's life.

James had a passion for fishing, often finding peace and solace by the water's edge. His love for the outdoors was only rivaled by his devotion to his family, with whom he spent countless hours creating precious memories, always eager to share stories and laughter.

He will be lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. Titus Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington Street, Syracuse, Indiana has been entrusted with James's care. The family is grieving privately. To send a written condolence, visit James's obituary page at: www.TitusFuneralHome.com.
