Irene Ferverda

Irene Ferverda, 97, of North Webster, IN died at 9:50 p.m. on Tuesday, October 13, 2009 at Miller's Merry Manor in Syracuse, IN. She was born Feb. 29, 1912 in Syracuse, IN to Eli and Osee (Kiser) Shock.

She was a lifetime area resident and graduated in 1930 from Syracuse High School. On August 18, 1934 in Syracuse she married Hiram B. Ferverda who preceded her in death on December 11, 2007.

She retired in 1971 from the Leesburg State Bank after 17 years. She formerly worked as a secretary at Syracuse High School for 4 years, was a homemaker, and assisted her husband on the family farm.

She was a member of the North Webster Church of God where she participated in the J.O.Y. (Just Older Youth) Group, formerly taught Sunday School, & sang in the choir; North Webster Senior Citizens; volunteered at Miller's Merry Manor in Syracuse for 20 years, and was a member of the former Hi Neighbors Club in North Webster.

She is survived by:
2 Daughters - Mrs. Nub (Sue) Niles of North Webster & Mrs. David (Beverly) Carey of Leesburg;
9 Grandchildren - Sue McKenzie, Annette Carmack, Todd Niles, Judy Timmons, Amy Templin, Mike Ferverda, Debbie Carey, Beth Maish, & Jeff Carey; 16 Gt. Grand, and 1 Gt. Gt. Granddaughter;
1 Daughter-in-Law - Roberta Ferverda of Warsaw.

She was preceded in death by: parents, husband, 1 son - Donald Ferverda, 2 granddaughters Diane Niles and Kay Ferverda, 1 Gt. Granddaughter - Kathy Carmack, 3 Sisters - Clara Dye, Pauline White, & Betty Ganger, & 5 Brothers - Elvin, John, Lester, Pearl, & Dale Shock.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 16, 2009 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at the North Webster Church of God with Pastors Jeff Boyer & Dennis Judy of the church officiating. Burial will follow at McClintic Cemetery in Syracuse.

Memorial bequests may be given to the North Webster Church of God. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home and the church.
