Greta Mary (Beaman) Shireman, 94, of Warsaw, passed away on Friday, January 16, 2026 at Grace Village in Winona Lake, Indiana. She was born on January 6, 1932 in Osage City, Kansas to Glynn and Grace (Swisher) Beaman.
Greta’s family moved often in her childhood before settling in Kosciusko County, Indiana. At a young age, she attended Claypool School, and graduated in 1949 from Warsaw High School. Greta married Donald Shireman on December 3, 1949.
Along with her mother, Grace Beaman, Greta & Don built Prairie View Nursing Home in Warsaw in 1956. Greta served on the election board for many years. Don & Greta made several anniversary trips to Hawaii and trekked to California with their children to visit family and friends. The Shiremans also enjoyed camping with the Kosko Kampers Klub.
Don & Greta bought a small farm south of Warsaw and built a chicken house for 15,000 chickens. Greta took care of the farm, and the Shiremans also grew organic fruits and vegetables. In later years, Don & Greta sold Litton Microwave Ovens and gave cooking classes to the public. Greta then worked for Morton Powder Coatings/Rohm & Haas, retiring after 26 years of service.
Greta loved adventure and loved to travel. After Don’s passing in 1986, Greta traveled extensively around the world with her daughter, Lee Ann, and other family members. Their travels took them to every continent except Antarctica. Greta and her 3 daughters made lots of memories the last 8 years on their semi-annual “Girls’ Week” trips.
Greta enjoyed quilting after her retirement and made over 50 beautiful quilts. She also sewed many Quilts of Valor for local veterans. Greta & Lee Ann delivered for Meals on Wheels for over 25 years, and Greta enjoyed playing Euchre with various groups around Warsaw. She loved reading, listening to music, playing with her cats, beating her family at card games, bowling in local leagues, and flowers of all kinds. Every month, Greta looked forward to lunches with her graduating class, the Forty Niners. Most of all, she loved her family and the time she got to spend with them.
Greta is survived by her beloved children: son, Dennis (Gale) Shireman of Delaware OH; and daughters, Sally (Richard) Morrison of Bellville OH, Lee Ann Jaeger of Warsaw, and Cindy (Craig) Hoard of Cicero IN. She is also survived by five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild on the way; sister-in-law, Becky Pfeiffer of Warsaw; and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to her parents, Greta was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Shireman; brothers, Glen Beaman, Gordon Beaman, and Gayle Beaman; her sister, Gracia Beaman; brothers-in-law, Gerald Pfeiffer and Frank Pfeiffer; sister-in-law, Ellen Estep; several nieces; many close friends; and several of her beloved cats.
Greta did not want a visitation or funeral service. Titus Funeral Home of Warsaw has been entrusted with cremation services. Greta will be laid to rest next to Don at Oakwood Cemetery in Warsaw in the spring.
The Shireman Family would like to thank Grace Village and Heart To Heart Hospice for their loving care of our mother.
