Grace Marie Eyer, longtime resident of Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Cedar Creek Assisted Living in Warsaw at the age of 96. Born on August 9, 1928, in Goshen, Indiana, she was the daughter of Carl and Velcie Stetler (Hapner).
Grace dedicated an impressive 38 years to working as a secretary and bookkeeper at Syracuse Rubber Products. She married Billy A. Eyer on April 12, 1947. Together they shared many memories and spent their lives raising their two children, Rebecca and Richard. Billy preceded her in passing in 1997.
Grace lived a life rich with family values and commitment to her work and community. A proud graduate of Syracuse High School in 1946, she was actively engaged in the Syracuse community. She was a member of the Bunco Club, the American Legion Post 223 Auxiliary, and a Mother's Club. Along with being an active part of Syracuse, she had many activities that brought her joy. She loved boating and living on Syracuse Lake, cooking and baking for family and holidays, gardening, puzzles, and collecting angels, snowmen and stuffed teddy bears, reflecting her nurturing spirit and love for challenges. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling. Her passion in life was traveling, especially on cruises to the Caribbean with family. She was especially proud of her great granddaughter and namesake. Her grandchildren remember that she attended many of their school and extracurricular activities.
Grace had a joyful life in her 96 years and her family will miss her deeply. She is survived by her children, Rebecca (Thomas Swaya) Eyer of Oshkosh, WI and Richard Eyer of Syracuse; mother of her grandchildren, Cinda Jacob, her grandchildren Cory Eyer (fiancé Michaya Rodriguez) and Brittany Prior (Adam Prior); and her great granddaughter, Waverly Grace Prior. She was preceded in passing by her parents, husband, and siblings, Mary Jane Rink, Betty Nyce, and Roy Stetler.
Visitation for Grace will be held at Titus Funeral Home of Syracuse, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, Indiana, 46567, on Thursday, May 29, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a funeral service starting at 12:00 PM. Phil Randall will be singing and officiating.
