Gene Marshall, age 76, of Leesburg, passed away from surgical complications on March 9, 2026 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. She was born on February 20, 1950 to Walter and Helen Deatsman. She was a lifelong resident of Leesburg. She graduated from the first class at Warsaw High School in 1969 and would marry her husband Charles "Chuck" Marshall on May 30, 1971.
Gene was known for her warmth, humor, and dedication to family and friends. She worked as a bank teller at Lake City Bank, Mutual Bank, and Key Bank. In addition, she spent time contributing to her family's farm in Leesburg.
Gene was well known for her vibrant personality. Always ready with a playful tease, she deeply loved her family. She was willing to lend a hand to those in need and made a significant impact through her involvement in 4-H with the Leesburg Mighty Farmers. Gene's passions extended beyond farming; she found joy in driving her Polaris Razor and demonstrated creativity and skill as a fantastic quilter. She was also an avid fan of Indiana Hoosiers basketball, though she secretly cheered for Notre Dame Fighting Irish in support of her son-in-law.
Gene is survived by her husband, Chuck Marshall of Leesburg, and her children, Trishell (James) Smith of Warsaw and Kimberly (Jason) Bledsoe of Warsaw. She cherished her grandchildren, Zachary Smith, Isabelle Smith, Kerstin Bledsoe, and Hallie Bledsoe, who brought immense joy to her life. Gene also leaves behind siblings Ross (Lana) Deatsman of Leesburg and Max (Gina) Deatsman of Leesburg, and her sweet dog Oliver.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her beloved dogs, Streaky and Rufus.
A time for family and friends to gather in remembrance of Gene will take place during her Life Celebration Visitation on March 13, 2026, from 4 PM to 8 PM at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 Sheridan Street, Warsaw, Indiana. On Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 10 AM to 11 AM additional visitation time will be held at Leesburg Methodist Church, 111 W. Prairie St, Leesburg, IN 46538, where a funeral service will be held at 11 AM with Pastor Rob Seewald officiating. A graveside service will follow to Leesburg Cemetery.
