Garry L. Eyer, 75, of Syracuse, IN passed away at 2:15 a.m. on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at Goshen General Hospital in Goshen, IN.  He was born on May 13, 1935 in Goshen, IN to Loren & Alma (Pinkerton) Eyer.
He was a lifetime Syracuse area resident and graduated in 1954 from Syracuse High School. He was married on September 28, 1958 in Syracuse to Gloria J. Hart, the couple later divorced but remained good friends. He then married in August 1989 to Judy (Decker) Dickeson and they later divorced. He served in the United States Army and retired in 2000 after 24 years as a custodian for the Wawasee Community School Corporation at Syracuse Elementary. He formerly worked at Bud’s Body Shop in Syracuse for 5 years and Syracuse Rubber for 13 years.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 223 in Syracuse. He attended the Syracuse Church of God and formerly attended Calvary United Methodist Church. He enjoyed golfing, playing basketball at the Syracuse Community Center, fishing, mushroom hunting, being outdoors and working in his wood shop.
He is survived by:
1 Daughter – Mrs. Rick (Karen) Pena of Syracuse
2 Grandsons – Joshua Todd Eyer & Zachery Scott Eyer both of Pierceton
2 Gt. Grandsons – Devin Scott Eyer & Benjamin Todd Eyer
Step son – Justin (wife, Amy) Dickeson of LaGrange
3 Step Grandchildren – Maija, Brenden & Drake Dickeson
He was preceded in death by his parents, son – Todd Eyer, 2 brothers – Bill Eyer & Jim Eyer, and an infant sister.
Visitation will be from 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 1, 2010 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 2, 2010 at the funeral home with Pastor Vince Wilczynski of the Syracuse Church of God officiating. Burial will follow in the Syracuse Cemetery with military graveside rites performed by the American Legion Post 223 in Syracuse.

Memorial bequest may be given to Goshen Care at Home Hospice, P.O. Box 723, Goshen, IN 46526. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
