Galen D. Close, longtime resident of North Webster, passed away at Canterbury Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Fort Wayne on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at the age of 75. Born in Marietta, Ohio on December 27, 1948, he was the son of Lewis Close and Mary Miller Close.
After graduating from high school, Galen worked in production for many years before retirement. Being a resident of North Webster for almost 40 years, he was a longtime active member of the American Legion Post 253 and the Moose Lodge in Warsaw.
Animals held a special place in Galen's heart. He had a deep affection for dogs and cats and found solace in their presence. He had many that he cherished over the years. Along with animals, Galen enjoyed watching sports including football and baseball and travelling with the legion.
Those who survive with his memories to cherish include his son and daughter in law, Bill and Barbara Close; grandchildren, Kylee Wittekind (Tyler) and William Branden Close (Shelby); sister, Vicki McDonald (Clyde) and sister-in-law, Jeannine Close. He is further survived by several nieces along with many friends. He is preceded in passing by his father, Lewis, mother, Mary, and brothers, Melvin and James Close.
