Evelyn Jones

EVELYN P. (LEER) JONES, 93, of Syracuse, died at 4:23 a.m. on Sunday, January 27, 2008 at Goshen General Hospital. She was born on July 3, 1914 in Bristol, IN to Clement Andrew & Ethel Mae (Congdon) Menges.

She grew up in Bristol and graduated in 1933 from Bristol High School. She then graduated in 1935 from Ball State University. She was married on December 24, 1935 in Bristol, IN to Thomas M. Leer who preceded her in November 1968. She was then married on June 28, 1969 to Daniel M. Jones who preceded her in May 1994.

She was a homemaker, a former elementary school teacher at Scott Grade School in Middlebury, a dental receptionist for Dr. Zimmerman in Nappanee, and worked for Thermogas in New Paris. She volunteered at the United Methodist Thrift Shop for nearly 20 years. She was a member of the St. Andrew's United Methodist Church in Syracuse where she was active in the Naomi Ladies Circle; Charter member of the Maxwelton Golf Club and Natti Crow Yacht Club both of Syracuse; former member of the Order of Eastern Star in Nappanee; and enjoyed playing many card games at the Elder Haus Senior Center in Nappanee.

She is survived by:
3 Daughters - Luanne Yoder of Milford; Mrs. Michael (Pat) Price of Syracuse; & Mrs. Jerry (Debra) Kirkdorfer of Syracuse

1 Step Son - Danny Bill (wife, Linda) Jones of Syracuse

8 Grand, 19 Gt. Grand, 4 Gt.Gt. Grand, 4 Step Grand & several Step Gt. Grandchildren

Life Companion - Robert Wolfinger of Syracuse

She was preceded by her parents, 2 husbands, 2 brothers - Howard & Harold Menges, 1 Step Grandson - Danny Jones.

Visitation will be from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the St. Andrews United Methodist Church, 1413 N. Long Dr., Syracuse, IN with Rev. Mark Eastway of the church officiating. Burial will follow in the Syracuse Cemetery.
