Earl Lavon Roberts, 66, of North Webster, IN died at 9:40 p.m. on Sunday, May 16, 2010 at Millers Merry Manor in Syracuse, IN.  He was born on February 25, 1944 in Warsaw, IN to Bernard J. & Avelda V. (White) Roberts.
He was a lifetime Syracuse / North Webster area resident. He graduated in 1962 from Syracuse High School, in 1966 from Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN and later received his Master’s Degree from Purdue University. On August 5, 1972 in Packerton, IN he married Phyllis Ann Haney who survives.
He was a retired agriculture teacher, having taught at Fairfield High School, Caston High School, Whitko High School and Warsaw High School, where he set up and started the Ag Program. He formerly worked for Pacemaker Buildings in North Webster.
He attended the Winona Grace Brethren Church. Life member of the Lion’s Club in North Webster where he was 1 of 8 Indiana members to serve as District Governor. He received the Melvin F. Jones Lion’s Club Award and was formerly the Chairman of the Mermaid Festival in North Webster. He formerly attended the Church of the Brethren and Church of God both in North Webster.
He enjoyed collecting Lion’s Club pins, photography, fishing, walking, traveling and was an avid Purdue and Cubs fan.
He is survived by:
Wife – Phyllis Roberts of North Webster
Daughter – Wende Roberts of North Webster
2 Brothers – Ron Roberts of Syracuse & Jon (wife, Betty Jo) Roberts of Syracuse
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 2:00 – 4:00 & 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at the funeral home with Pastor Dennis Judy of the North Webster Church of God officiating. Burial will follow in North Webster Cemetery (Mock Addition).
Memorial bequest may be given to the Earl L. Roberts Funeral Fund, c/o Owen Family Funeral Home. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
