Dwight Lackey

February 29, 1956 — November 30, 2023

Warsaw

Dwight David Lackey, known to most as Dave, passed away after bravely battling his health on November 30, 2023, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, dedication, and unwavering love for his family.

Born on February 29, 1956, in Warsaw to Clarence and Esther Ettinger Lackey, Dave grew up in a close-knit community surrounded by the love of his parents and nine siblings: Lynn Smith, Beth Lucas, Patty Tribble, Jerry Lackey, Jan Lackey, Annette Harris, Kelly Lackey, Jonelle O'Connell and Carolyn Walmer. From an early age, it was clear that Dave possessed qualities that would define him throughout his life - selflessness, compassion and an unwavering commitment to the ones he loved.

Dave's hardworking nature led him on a career that spanned more than three decades. He dedicated himself to the field of anodizing, powder coating, and plating with Akzo Nobel. Coworkers remember Dave as dependable and committed, always approaching his job with diligence and detail.

However, Dave's true devotion was always to his family. As a proud father, grandfather and devoted husband, Dave's love for his family knew no bounds. He prioritized their happiness above all else and was always there for them through thick and thin. He was protective of his family and cared for them immensely.

Dave found joy in sports of all kinds. He was a fan of IU Basketball and Notre Dame Football. He also cheered passionately for the Chicago Cubs during baseball season. Additionally, watching sprint car racing and golf provided Dave with moments of excitement and a good nap.

Dave was humble about his military service. He was an honorably discharged veteran of the United States Navy, a fact he rarely spoke about but one that exemplified his sense of duty and patriotism.

Dave is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 44 years, Terry Lackey; three sons: Daniel Taylor of Mentone, David Taylor of Warsaw (and his fiancée, Fabiola) and Brooks Lackey of Warsaw; three cherished grandchildren: Kinsey, Nicolas, and Keegan Taylor and his nine siblings. He was preceded in passing by his parents.
