Donald “Don” Alfred Swinford, of Pierceton, passed away at his home with his family by his side on December 18, 2024. Don was born in Richmond, Virginia on August 19, 1949, to Alfred Swinford and Mary Clyde Cooper.
Don served his country with honor during the Vietnam conflict as a member of the Navy. He was an engine mechanic and was assigned to riverboats in Vietnam. To complete his service, Don was sent to Guam before returning to his home in Michigan.
After leaving the service, Don traveled the country working as a Union NTL boilermaker, local 5555 then 374. He worked for over 40 years in his trade, first with his dad, Al Swinford, at PDM, then through various locals and CBI Services. During his career, he was a boilermaker, a pusher, and a safety supervisor. Don was an avid fisherman and University of Michigan fan, Go Blue! He was also very proud of his children. Among many other things, he taught them that “you can bend a lot of nails for what it would cost to hire someone else to do it”.
Anyone who met Don immediately became aware of his quick wit and tremendous sense of humor. He always knew the funniest comment to make at the right moment. Don was loved and respected by everyone who knew him. He was truly one of a kind.
Don will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 34 years, Laurie and his children, Sean (Maria) Swinford and Brooke Swinford.
