Darrel Mast, a beloved member of the South Whitley community, passed away unexpectedly on September 12, 2025, at the age of 60. Born on July 31, 1965, in Columbia City, Indiana to the late Rex and Ina Jeanette Mast. Darrel lived the majority of his life in Pierceton and South Whitley.
Darrel spent his career working for Tim Smith Construction. Beyond his professional life, Darrel was deeply committed to public service, volunteering as a fireman and first responder for the Cleveland Township Volunteer Fire Department in South Whitley for many years. His dedication to the fire department was profound; he not only dedicated countless hours but also served as a passionate supporter of the department, embodying the spirit of the brotherhood.
Darrel was a graduate of Whitko High School, Class of 1984. Known for his love of humor, he had a unique personality infused with wit and sarcasm that made him a cherished friend to many. His jovial nature and distinctive charm made him one of a kind, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him.
He is survived by his siblings, Kevin (Myra) Mast of Pierceton and Lisa (Bill) Hampton of Chapman Lake. Additionally, he leaves behind his beloved nieces and nephews, Heather (Ken) Gero of Havelock, NC, David Sainer of Pierceton, Jared (Emma) Sainer of Winona Lake, and Stephanie Campbell of Pierceton; great-nieces and nephews, Calvin Gero, Miley Ballard, and IreLynn Gero who will fondly remember their Uncle Darrel's infectious spirit and generosity.
Darrel was preceded in death by his parents, Rex and Ina Jeanette Mast and a nephew Derrik Mast.
A Life Celebration Visitation for Darrel will be held on September 18, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by a funeral service beginning at 7:00 PM with Pastor Rob Neel officiating. Both services will take place at Titus Funeral Home, located at 2000 Sheridan Street, Warsaw, IN 46580.
Donations in honor of Darrel may be given to the Cleveland Township Fire Department, 117 N State St, South Whitley, IN 46787.
