Dana DeAngelis, age 86, of Silver Lake Indiana, formerly of Oak Lawn, Illinois, passed away peacefully Saturday July 11th, surrounded by her family. Dana was born in Poland and emigrated to Uvalde, Texas in 1949 with her parents and siblings. They relocated to Chicago, Illinois in 1952.
She met her soulmate and best friend John while working at Wittek Manufacturing in 1967, and they soon fell in love after a Christmas kiss had her "seeing fireworks". The pair married in 1972, and moved to Oak Lawn, Illinois where they raised their six children: Kathy(Pete) Slusinski, Ted DeSaga, the late Richard DeSaga, Rudy(Lisa) DeAngelis, Michelle(Curtis) DeAngelis-Simonson, and Rebecca(Joel) Fry.
Dana was the proud grandmother of 22 grandchildren: Pete, Penny, Dana, Nick, Richard John, Aurora, Amanda, the late Jonathan, Jesse, Samantha, Alexis, Jacob, Christopher, Caitlin, Danielle, Giovanni, Onon, Angela, Chommie, Abigail, Camden and Maisie, 27 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
She was a devoted wife and mother, who worked tirelessly to keep her family filled with Christmas cookies, pierogi, Italian food, and macaroni salad. Despite her own small army of children, there was always room for whatever stray person her children brought home for a hot meal and safe place to stay. Dana was stunningly beautiful, and was always the best dressed woman in the room. She loved high heels, jeans, black clothing, Space Invaders, holding hands with her husband, sipping bourbon, stealing plants to propagate, and playing cards with family.
Dana was strong and brave, as ornery as she was kind, and left everyone she knew with the best stories to tell for years to come.
The family is grieving privately at this time and there will be a Celebration of Life, Saturday, July 25th at 1pm at the Claypool Lions Club, 201 W Calhoun St, Claypool, IN 46510. Pastor Curtis Simonson will officiate. Arrangements are entrusted to Titus Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 2000 Sheridan Street, Warsaw, IN 46580.
