Charles Sponseller

Charles T. (Charlie) Sponseller, 89, of Pierceton, died at 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at Mason Health & Rehab in Warsaw. He was born July 28, 1919, in Convoy, OH to Forest O. and Eva (Siders) Sponseller.

He graduated from Tully & Harrison Township High School in Convoy, OH. He attended International Design Engineering School. On February 2, 1941, in Pierceton he married Vera Jean McGary who preceded him in January, 1980. On February 14, 1981, in Elkhart, he married Thelma L. (Ulery) Maure who survives.

He moved to the Pierceton / Warsaw area in 1940 from Convoy, OH. He worked for GE in Fort Wayne during World War II in the Design Drafting Dept. He retired after 50 years as a registered certified hearing aid dealer for his own company, Sponseller Hearing Service in Pierceton, where he served the Tri-State area as an audiologist. He was a member of the North Webster Church of God, the Moose Lodge in Elkhart, former member and past Master of the Masonic Lodge #377 in Pierceton, formerly attended Pierceton United Methodist Church where he served as superintendent. He was an avid florist and gardener.

He is survived by:
Wife - Thelma Sponseller of Pierceton
3 Sons - Jeffrey C. (wife, Barbara) Sponseller of Pierceton; Jerome L. (wife, Kay) Sponseller of Pierceton; and Mark J. (wife, Sue) of Yorktown, IN
9 Grandchildren and 10 Great Grandchildren
Step Son - Ron (wife, Alicia) Maure of Elkhart
Step Daughter - Mrs. Adam (Sharon) Hawkins of Elkhart
4 Step Grandchildren

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, 1 sister - Mildred Rose Doctor, 2 Brothers - Junior and Eugene Sponseller.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 - 4:00 & 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2008 at Owen Family Funeral Home, 1001 S. Huntington St., Syracuse, IN. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 4, 2008 at the funeral home with Pastor Dennis Judy of the North Webster Church of God officiating. Burial will follow at Washington Union Cemetery in Pierceton, IN.

Memorial bequests may be given to the American Heart Association or the North Webster Church of God. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
