Charles "Mike" M. Cheek

Charles Michael Cheek, “Mike,” was born on Mother’s Day, May 12, 1946, and met his Savior eye to eye on June 11, 2024, surrounded by the love, laughter, and tears of his beloved wife, June, four daughters, and one of his granddaughters.

Mike graduated from Aurora High School in Aurora, Indiana in 1964. He attended Purdue University and earned his B.S. in engineering in 1968. He then enlisted in the Army and proudly served our country in Korea from September 1969-October 1970.

Prior to leaving for Korea, Mike met and was smitten with June Marlene Jackson. She was equally smitten and thus began a two-year courtship, which included the thirteen months he was stationed in Korea.

June and Mike were married on June 12, 1971, and resided in Bloomington, Indiana, where Mike attended Indiana University, earning a master’s degree in business in December 1972.

In January 1973, Mike and June moved to Muncie, Indiana, where they welcomed daughters Melinda Ann and Kimberly Rae in February 1975 and November 1976. January 1977 brought the growing Cheek family to Madisonville, Kentucky, where daughters Rebecca Lee and Ami Lara were born in July 1978 and July 1980.

The Cheek family resided in Norman, Oklahoma from 1981-1983. In 1983, they moved to Jacobus, Pennsylvania, where they lived until 1991. Mike’s job change moved the Cheeks to Randolph, New Jersey, where they lived for two years before relocating to Rockwall, Texas in the summer of 1993. In 1999, Mike and June, now empty nesters, moved once again to Chambersburg, Pennsylvania and lived there until 2001, when they relocated back to Texas, this time to Fair Oaks Ranch. They made their home in Fair Oaks Ranch for fifteen years before moving back to Rockwall, Texas in June 2017 to be closer to three daughters and a growing number of grandchildren.

As time marched forward, the couple decided to return to their Hoosier roots and built their forever, last home in Winona Lake, Indiana. They moved into their home in December 2023, where Mike enjoyed and savored the last few months of his life.

Mike’s greatest joys were spending time each morning growing closer to God, his beloved June, and “his” dog Bitsi. His unscheduled days allowed him to fall even more deeply in love with his bride of over fifty-two years. He loved ending the day on their back patio, watching the sun set.

Mike loved and was loved by countless family and friends from his many adventures. After retirement, he found fulfillment in mentoring several young men and families, leaving a lasting impact.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Esther Cheek.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, June. He also leaves his four daughters: Mindi Reinholt, Kim Cook, Becki Cheek Hensel, and Ami Cheek; sons-in law: Ryan Reinholt, Barry Cook, and Doug Hensel; grandchildren: Riley and Leah Reinholt, Lillian and Madelyn Cook, Rudy, Juliette, Charlie, and Matthew Hensel; and granddog Temba. Mike was immensely proud of each of his girls and grandchildren.

Mike is also survived by his sisters Mary Jane “Janie” Cheek and Julie Troutt (Rob); nieces Ann, Tracy, Jennifer, and Amanda; and nephew Adam. He adored each of them and their families.

The family would also like to extend our deepest gratitude and appreciation to the nurses, doctors, rehabilitation team, respiratory therapists, EMTs, palliative care team, and countless other medical professionals who loved and cared for Mike and our whole family at Parkview Warsaw, Randallia, and Regional Hospitals.
