Carol A. Westerman

March 21, 1951 — November 14, 2024

Syracuse

Carol A. Westerman, longtime resident of the North Webster and Syracuse community, passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at the age of 73. Born on March 21, 1951, in Nappanee, she was the daughter of Andrew and Clara Chupp (Slabaugh).

For 23 years, Carol owned and operated Lucky's Tavern, where she was known not only for being the owner but also for her giving and easygoing personality. Her tavern became a gathering spot, appreciated by locals and visitors alike. Carol's dedication to helping others extended beyond her work, as she was an active mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Carol's passions were varied and rich; she enjoyed playing shuffleboard throughout the country, fishing in Wisconsin, taking rides in the golf cart, and indulging in the slot machines and blue chips at the casino. She also was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed Gunsmoke. Carol often spent her free time cooking, baking and canning. Although she was very straightforward and would tell you how she felt, Carol was very loving and will be deeply missed by those who knew her.

Carol is survived by her life partner, Tom Bickel; her son A.J. (Bonny) Westerman; her stepchildren Seth Bickel and Trisha Williams; and her cherished grandchildren Hunter (Gabby) Westerman, Brandon Cox and Victoria (Zach) Fuller. She also leaves behind five great-grandchildren, Rhea Westerman, Liam Jackson, Oaklinn Fuller, and Lexxi Fuller, along with siblings, Fannie (Mervin) Miller, Katherine (Steven) Miller, Ina (Vernon) Bontrager, Wilma (Lynn) Hively, Treva Chupp, Erma (Bob) Stevens and Joseph (Sue) Chupp and family friend, Dawn Cox. She is further survived by many extended family members and friends. She is preceded in passing by her parents Andrew and Clara Chupp (Slabaugh); her son Ricky Westerman; and her brothers Alvin and Eldon Chupp.
