Obituary for Vera Gaff (Macy)

Print
Vera O. Gaff, 89, Warsaw, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Aug. 26, 2018, after a sudden illness.
Vera was born in Richmond, Ind., on Aug. 26, 1929, the oldest daughter of Oscar and Mary Macy. A graduate of Wolf Lake High School, she married Jesse L Gaff on Oct. 22, 1947. Together for 62 years, they raised three children and were active members of the local community.

A founding member of the Warsaw Rifle & Pistol Club, Vera was a competitive shooter and NRA certified riflery instructor. She retired from Zimmer after 10 years of service and was a member of Warsaw Church of God.

Vera was predeceased by her husband, Jesse L Gaff, and her son, Roger L Gaff, both of Warsaw; and one brother, Charles Macy.

She is survived by her brother, Tom Macy (Viola), Columbia City; and sister, Melanie Ramey (Robin), Ash Grove, Mo. Left to cherish her memory are daughters Dena Walker (Douglas), Richmond, Va., and Jo Ellen Smith (Terry), Warsaw. She also leaves behind six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to extend our heartfelt love and gratitude to Pam Brandon, Vera’s devoted longtime caregiver and friend, for filling Vera’s later years with love, laughter and purpose.

Vera will be remembered by her family and friends for her quick sense of humor, the tremendous pride she had in her kids and grandkids, and her ability to find the silver lining in any cloud. She was a talented artist, a caring friend and a gifted storyteller. Every stranger was simply a friend she hadn’t shown her grandkids to yet.

Vera’s life was lived with courage, grit, humor and overflowing love. The world is better because she lived, and her passing leaves a space in the hearts of her family that will never be filled.

Viewing and visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 31, at Titus Funeral Home, 2000 E. Sheridan Street, Warsaw, with the funeral service to follow at 1 p.m. Pastor Tim Kumfer of Warsaw Church of God, will officiate the service. Burial will follow in Warsaw's Oakwood Cemetery.

Memorial gifts may be made to Riley Children's Hospital, 705 Riley Hospital Drive, Indianapolis, Indiana 46202, with envelopes available at Titus Funeral Home.
