Obituary

Ted Prater, age 83 of Sellers Lake, passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2020 in Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.

Born on December 24, 1936 in Prestonsburg, Kentucky, Ted was the son of Homer and Delilah (Helton) Prater. Ted was an honorably discharged veteran of the US Navy having served onboard the USS Arcadia. He was a trained cabinet maker and worked in production for companies like Union Tool before his retirement.

A caring, humble man, Ted was loved by everyone. He was a kind, generous man of Christ and attended God’s Highway to Heaven Church. He liked crossword puzzles, sports (especially the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs) and loved time spent with family; nothing meant more to him than cooking for family at a cookout and spending time with his five children and their families which includes five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

On May 2, 1959, Ted was married to Georgia Helen Harris. Together the two shared more than fifty-five years before her 2014 passing. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Paul Prater. Those who survive include daughters: Lana (husband, Roger) Sloan of Warsaw and Ruth Harris of Warsaw; sons: Ted W Prater of Warsaw, Fred Prater of South Whitley and Eddie Prater of Warsaw; brother, Billy Joe (wife, Thelma) Prater of Ashland, Kentucky; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Friends may gather with family at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 6, 2020 in Sidney Cemetery for a graveside committal. Military honors will be offered by members of the US Navy, American Legion Post 49 and VFW Post 1126. Titus Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be left on the funeral home website at www.TitusFuneralHome.com.
