Obituary

Charles E. Buell, age 97 and a lifetime resident of Warsaw, passed away unexpectedly at Miller’s Merry Manor in Warsaw on Tuesday, April 21, 2020.

Charles was born in Warsaw on May 7, 1922, the son of George and Edna M. (Nine) Buell. He was a 1941 graduate of Warsaw High School. After graduating, he served in the US Army in the Philippines where he was attached to a field artillery unit. He was honorably discharged, having earned the rank of Corporal, in 1946.

In February of the same year, Charles was united in marriage to Marvel Galloway. The two were married for more than sixty-five years before Marvel passed in March of 2011. To their union, two sons were born – Mike and Jeff; both survive.

Charles was employed by Peabody ABC for more than forty years, retiring in 1987. He was a friendly but quiet person who loved time spent outdoors. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and keeping busy in the yard. He also liked to tinker with small projects and was a longtime member of American Legion Post 49.

Those who survive include sons Jeff Buell of Warsaw and Mike (Doralee) Buell of Warsaw; two grandsons, David and Daniel Buell; three step grandchildren: Eli (Alissha) Shepherd, Kristie (Stephen) Osbeck and Brian Shepherd; two great-grandchildren, Autumn Buell and Kane Buell and eight step great-grandchildren: Chloe Shepherd, Hayley Shepherd, Cameron Shepherd, Kelsi Shepherd, Benjamin Shepherd, Kaiden Shepherd, Adrianna Osbeck and Dexter Osbeck. In addition to his wife, Marvel, those who preceded Charles in passing include brothers: Dale Buell, George Buell and Francis Buell and his sister, Eloise Phillips.

Military graveside honors will be held at Oakwood Cemetery in the coming weeks with military honors rendered by members of American Legion Post 49. Titus Funeral Home is assisting the family; to leave condolences, visit www.TitusFuneralHome.com. Memorial gifts may be directed to American Legion Post 49, 301 N Buffalo St, Warsaw, IN 46580.

We were neighbors with your parents and my girls loved to ride their little bikes over to the house and chat about life as a 3 and 7 year old with your dad. I always remember your father sitting outside in his lawn chair watching the neighborhood. He was always so kind. It was an honor to know both he and your mom. So sorry for your loss.

Buell family,
We had the pleasure of meeting your dad as my mother entered Miller's assisted living last summer. He was usually standing guard over the front porch or just inside keeping tabs on what was going on. Charlie will be missed by so many of us that none of you probably knew. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Please keep all your happy memories close at hand.

I enjoyed getting to know Mr Buell when I worked for the City of Warsaw’s sewage payment office. He was a quiet and nice man. My husband knew him before I did from his interest in the park . We always enjoyed seeing him and Jeff at Richards during lunch. I’m sorry I never went to Miller’s to visit him. God bless and keep him.
